New History Unit-supported publications are out, and you have a chance to look behind the scenes of these journalistic projects and talk to their authors. On May 22, at 17:00 CET, they will tell about taking these pieces from concept to finished work and answer your questions.

History is shaped by which stories are remembered and which remain untold. History Unit brings together journalists and activists from Belarus, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine to uncover often-overlooked queer narratives and better understand present challenges.

These authors took part in the History Unit workshop last autumn, which included a thematic educational day at the Buchenwald Memorial, sessions on queer history, journalism and archival work, and a visit to the Schwules Museum Berlin. After that, the workshop participants were able to apply for stipends to work on their ideas. We are so happy to finally share these stories with you!

Here is what to expect in terms of topics and authors:

  • Historical and contemporary presence of queer and trans people — Anton Ambroziak and Marit Blossey for oko.press
  • Romani queer resistance throughout history — Melania Swiontek Brzezinski and Ann Toma-Toader for taz
