Join us for an n-ost online kitchen talk about queer histories and current realities across four European countries. We will present and discuss the first round of publications supported within the History Unit project.
History is shaped by which stories are preserved and which remain untold. Through our project, journalists and activists from Belarus, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine worked together to uncover often-overlooked queer narratives. We visited Holocaust memorial sites, had learning sessions on queer history, and met with grassroots activists to better understand how past injustices shape present challenges.
At the kitchen talk, the authors will share their findings and discuss them in an informal setting. This format encourages open dialogue – bring your questions and insights as we explore how understanding our past helps us confront today's challenges to queer rights.
The presentation will feature:
- Olga Bubich on remembrance (and lack thereof) of queer victims in Holocaust narratives
- The team behind Eastern Queerope, a project telling forgotten stories of Eastern European LGBTQ+ Heroes
- Anna Holishevska with a series of reports from wartime Ukraine
- Artur Koldomasov on the connection between Catholicism and queerness in Poland
- Sarah Tekath with a radio show on queer people in Holocaust
- Juri Wasenmüller on queer history and the backlash against queer activism in Germany today
- Representatives of our partner organisation Human Constanta (Belarus, in exile): Kacia Prakharenka and Vałdzis Fuhaš
- Journalist and editor Yuliana Skibitska, our partner in Ukraine
